Port Tarragona President

Saül Garreta Puig, born in Tarragona in 1972, has been the president of the Tarragona Port Authority since November, 2022. He holds a degree in Architecture from the Polytechnic University of Valencia (graduating in the year 2000), majoring in Building Construction. He also holds a Professional Master’s Degree in Territorial Studies and Urban Development awarded by the Polytechnic University of Catalonia and the Pompeu Fabra University (in Barcelona).

In 2001, he served as the county architect of the Alt Camp County Council and also held the office of Municipal Architect of the towns of Aiguamurcia, El Catllar, Vila-Rodona and Els Pallaresos. He has also been the owner of Garreta Architects’ Practice, a limited company specialising in Architecture and Urban Development. He is the President of ‘Reviure Solanell’ [Reviving Solanell], a cooperative that has completely rebuilt the village of Solanell in the county of Alt Urgell and is a founding member of the ‘La Fábrica de Transició’ [The Factory of Transition], a cooperative in charge of rebuilding a textile industrial complex in the town of El Catllar.

As President of the Port of Tarragona, Mr Garreta is also the Vice-President of the most important petro-chemical cluster in southern Europe, ChemMed; he serves on the board of APPORTT (The Administrative Council Association for the Promotion of the Port of Tarragona); he also serves on the board of the BCCL Association (the Centre of Logistics for Barcelona and Catalonia) and he is also the President of CEMAPT (the Centre for Maritime Studies of the Port of Tarragona). He is also a member of the MEDPorts Association and Mediterranean Ports Community, both of which are international port organisations.
